Getting paid directly by a UK client: how it actually works

PH Talents · August 2026

If you have worked with overseas clients before, you may have learned to be careful about one thing above all: getting paid. Rates that shrink somewhere between the client and your bank account. Middlemen who hold your money. Invoices that disappear into someone's inbox. This article explains exactly how payment works when you find work through PH Talents — who you contract with, when the money moves, and what happens if something goes wrong.

You contract with the client, not with us

When PH Talents matches you with a UK company and both sides want to go ahead, the contract is between you and that client. PH Talents is not your employer, and we are never in the payment chain. The client pays you directly, into your own bank account.

That structure matters, because it means the rate you agree is the rate you keep. We do not take a cut of your pay — not in the first month, not ever. There is no percentage quietly deducted before the money reaches you, because the money never passes through us at all.

It is also worth saying plainly: talents never pay PH Talents anything. Joining, verification and being matched with clients are all free. UK law — the rules that govern employment agencies — prohibits agencies from charging work-seekers, so this is not just our policy. It is a legal rule we are bound by.

The monthly rhythm

Payment follows a simple, predictable cycle:

Your part of the cycle is short: review the invoice, confirm it is right, send it by month-end. The rest happens on a schedule you can plan your life around.

What happens if a client pays late or disputes an invoice

This is the part most people worry about, so let us be direct. If a client pays late, PH Talents chases them. If a client disputes an invoice, we mediate. We also check invoices over as part of the process, so problems are caught early. This is part of the service we provide to talent — you are not left sending awkward follow-up messages to your own client alone.

Your invoice record on the platform is your evidence. It shows what was billed and when it was sent. When we chase a client, that record is what we point to.

Why keeping invoices on the platform protects you

Once a placement is going well, it can be tempting to move invoicing off the platform — a spreadsheet here, a PDF by email there. We would encourage you not to, for your own protection.

An invoice sent through the portal creates a clear, dated record that both you and PH Talents can see. If a payment is late or disputed, we can act straight away, because the evidence is already in front of us. An invoice sent privately by email leaves you to argue your own case, with whatever records you happened to keep.

A note on BIR registration

Some Filipino professionals register with the BIR as self-employed and handle their taxes that way. If you have a BIR registration, we record it on your profile. If you do not, that is fine as far as PH Talents is concerned — it is never a requirement for joining or for being matched with clients. Whether and how you register for tax is a matter between you and the BIR.

The short version

The contract is yours, the rate is yours, and the bank account the money lands in is yours. Our job is to keep the monthly cycle running smoothly — and to stand behind you if it does not. If that is the arrangement you have been looking for, you can register at phtalents.io/portal.
